Browser Madness

This guy from Splasho has installed an insane 100 (top rated) plugins for Firefox. What a great but terrible idea, I wish I had thought of it.

Computer 1

Super hot. I really sorta wish, in some sick way, that computer equiptment was still designed like this; all blue, orange and chrome. Check it out.

Atari ST magazine scans from the 1980s

From BoingBoing: Atari ST magazine scans from the 1980s:

While at my parents over Christmas, I ventured into the loft and found issue 1 of ST Format, dating from 1989. Naturally I scanned in some select pages, in particular a bunch of adverts. A few gems in there, if you can find them...

More OS X malware

From the ever informative F-Secure blog.. More OS X malware:

Like Inqtana.A the .B and .C are locked to certain bluetooth addresses and are time limited to 24. February 2006, so they will not be able to replicate on any real environment and will work only in specially crafted lab. However it is possible that some virus author will create similar worms that are not intentionally limited, so please make sure that your OS X is up to date.

It was only a matter of time of course before Apple started getting hit with vulnerabilities. The difference between the way these work and the way most virii work on Windows is user interaction. It takes a lot more direct contact with the user to get a Mac virus to propagate, which will limit the success of propagation in most cases.

A more serious threat down the line will be a worm that impacts AFP, or some other more commonly open protocol that can jump from infected system to clean system without much if any user interaction.

?

Likely? Not so much. But possible, yes, always.

Misc snippets on mindfulness and relaxation

I've been trying to get more into my own headspace as of late, finding that the more relaxed I am during any situation, the better I am at putting together a solution.

If I can ever get around to it I'm going to try to study more relaxation and meditation techniques this year. My planned reading list;

"Zen Meditation in Plain English" (John Daishin Buksbazen, Peter Matthiessen)

"Zen and the Brain: Toward an Understanding of Meditation and Consciousness" (James H. Austin)

"Undoing Perpetual Stress : The Missing Connection Between Depression, Anxiety and 21st Century Illness" (Richard O'Connor)

Also, via 43Folders; Jack Kornfield on mindfulness.

How to stop junk mail and phonecalls

Via LifeHacker and Obviously:

Simply interrupt the telemarketer and say "Please permanently remove me from your calling list". Remember that they just interrupted you. If the same people call back, they are violating the law. Ask them for their company name, supervisor name and phone number.

Do-it-yourself: Stop junk mail, email and phone calls

Not sure how this works in Canada, but I'll try it anyway.

Multi-Input Touch Screen Demo Vid

See the video here.

This is an awesome demo of a touch-screen that can take multiple touch inputs at the same time, leading to some cool "Minority Report" type interactions. This is one of the coolest things I've seen in a while.
